We specialize in the elusive “Copper Red” glaze, a high fired premium glaze with incredible depth. Reds are typically very difficult to achieve and only a small percentage of potters attempt to work with this beautiful but finicky glaze, especially for functional pottery.

The goal of my working process is to have no goal. Letting go is the key to letting creativity flow. Freedom from conception is the way to open the door to happiness, clarity, and creativity.

Drawing is the primary element in my work. It gives me direct access to my impulses through the immediacy and personal quality of mark-making. Multiple layers of drawings comprise the work. Working intuitively and deliberately, each drawing suggests others until the work is completed, resulting in a work that is simultaneously formal and instinctual and which signifies the tangle of life.

Painting is a lot about memory. Whistler used to take students out, turn his back to a view after studying it a short time, and paint from memory. There’s a place where the paint and canvas and brush take over, takes on a life of its own, irregardless and I have to follow. Landscape is a not so much a place as a state of mind evoked in paint. I want my work to evoke something in the viewer…a memory, a story, a fantasy…that’s the conversation…but also be a WORK of art, something made well with respect for what these very humble materials can bring forth.

My current body of work is a series of ethereal abstracts with the horizon line as dominant element. My goal is simplicity of composition, exquisite color, and interesting surface. I apply old-world methods of building color to contemporary themes.
Clients remark that these paintings wear well over time, and that appreciation of them grows with familiarity.
