We specialize in the elusive "Copper Red" glaze, a high fired premium glaze with incredible depth. Reds are typically very difficult to achieve and only a small percentage of potters attempt to work with this beautiful but finicky glaze, especially for functional pottery.

Most of my pottery is inspired in part by the human figure and the interaction between pieces in a set is an important component in my work. My background as a printmaker also comes through in some of the patterns that I apply in the use of slip and a black underglaze. I am also fascinated by the repetition of patterns that follow the shape of the pot and give texture to the glaze.

I create mainly functional pieces of ceramic art on the wheel as well as non functional raku. Each piece is individually thrown and hand glazed. I work with high fire stoneware which means my functional pots are dishwasher and microwave safe. My current work is an integration of opposing forces: controlled versus non-controlled surface designs; geometric shapes versus organic shapes and lines

My ceramic work is primarily decorative rather than functional. Forms are mathematically configured with attention to their structure and use, both as individual objects and part of a larger grouping. I consider how the theme of each object will interact to form a family grouping with another.

My current work focuses on personal shrines. It is a visual exploration of my experience in living in different places and transporting my “stuff”, both physical and mental, from one to the next. What do we hold dear? Why do we keep it? and Who is responsible for the baggage? These are the questions that I think of as each new piece emerges.

My pottery is inspired by the beauty of mathematics and the dynamics of ocean waves. I want each piece to ask to be touched, handled and used. The art is in the function. Pottery that is used establishes a bond - it's an old friend that provides comfort while at the same time is a work of art containing a bit of the maker's soul.
